Not Worth Visiting The park is quite old and looks almost the same as when it was originally built. There is nothing particularly special or unique to see. Fountains were not working , which was disappointing. The park was extremely crowded, making it difficult to enjoy the surroundings. In addition, there were very few food stalls, so finding good refreshments was not easy. Overall, I don't think it's worth visiting unless you're just looking for a place to take a short walk. Ticket is only 50 rupees per head for Local Tourist
Lot of maintenance ,paint, restoration work is to be done. I took golf cart around the garden. Traditional lamp illumination area is under repairs. Water fountains were not operational. May be they are activated on certain occasions.
Construction work is currently underway in the park, causing entry to be restricted in several areas; however, the views are much better at night. The cleanliness is commendable, and the night-time lighting is quite good, though there is still need for further improvement. The water fountain were not functioning—even though they certainly should be—and the construction work needs to be completed quickly. It is better to visit after Maghrib. Orange train over Head bridge view is also gorgeous.
Shalimar Gardens was built during the Mughal period under Emperor Shah Jahan in 1641–1642 CE. It represents the height of Mughal landscape architecture, where gardens were designed not just for beauty but as symbolic representations of paradise described in Islamic and Persian traditions. The garden follows the classic Charbagh (four-part garden) layout, though adapted into a terraced structure due to the natural slope of the land. Each terrace has its own function and aesthetic, connected through carefully engineered water channels fed by a sophisticated gravity-based system—an impressive feat of 17th-century engineering. Historically, it was used as a royal retreat for the Mughal court, especially during visits to Lahore. The marble pavilions, fountains, and symmetrical pathways were designed to reflect order, harmony, and imperial power, while also providing a cool, peaceful environment during hot seasons. Today, it is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, valued for both its architectural brilliance and its role in showcasing the peak of Mughal garden design.
This place is truly magically and I went there at night time for the first time. As we were on a banks official trip so the management made extra arrangements to show us the unique ways of the Mughal empire. The qawali night and the show was breath taking. Overall hands down a very good place to see cultural and heritage background. Highly recommended
I had a fantastic time exploring Shalimar Gardens with my family today. From the moment we entered, we were captivated by the beautifully landscaped terraces, flowing water channels and historic Mughal architecture that make this place so unique. The gardens are very well-maintained, with lush greenery and plenty of shaded walkways — perfect for a relaxed stroll with loved ones. We hired a tour guide who made our experience even more meaningful. He was knowledgeable, friendly and engaging, providing detailed stories and historical context about the gardens, the design elements, and their significance during the Mughal era. It truly brought the site to life and helped us appreciate every section more deeply. A fun highlight of our visit was getting paid photos with a parrot and an eagle — a memorable moment that added an extra touch of enjoyment for the whole family. The staff handling the birds were professional and ensured everything was safe and enjoyable. The entrance area has clean facilities and friendly attendants, and the overall atmosphere feels peaceful despite the number of visitors. Perfect for history lovers, photographers and families alike. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Lahore — a beautiful piece of history that’s truly worth your time! 🌺📸
